8) Energy Efficiency

Old style television sets were designed with vacuum tubes and cold cathode fluorescents. This old technology was at best, terribly inefficient and at worst a toxic fire hazard. As technology and awareness has progressed, the energy efficiency of our beloved television set has grown steadily stronger. Though many older model LCD flat screen televisions are still considered energy hogs, they are a far cry from the vacuum tube. When LCD and plasma televisions first came into public homes, they retained a “stand-by” power feature that caused them to continue drawing power even when turned off. With the technological advances being what they are, those modes have been significantly reduced, or removed altogether. The newest televisions on the market today completely bypass the “stand-by” mode and go completely powerless when shut down.
