11 Reasons You Need to Buy a New TV

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) are the absolute cutting edge of television technology. To create any given image on a TV, you only need three primary colors – red, green, and blue – and combining them in different patterns to create any color or shape that you want. Older technologies would accomplish this seemingly simple task in a few different ways. Plasma televisions, for example, would shine UV light through pockets of different excitable phosphorous gases, while LCDs would use color filters and light-blocking crystals. OLED is different in the sense that it applies electricity directly to certain materials to get them to glow these certain colors. By relinquishing the need for a light source – making the materials themselves produce the light – you can increase the contrast of your images while decreasing the thickness of your screen.
