10 Worst Cities in the United States for Violent Crime

5) Rockford

Rockford is a city in Illinois, which, as a state, has an overall lower crime rate than the national average. As such, the city of Rockford is a bit of an exception, with 1,585.3 violent crimes per 100,000 residents and a general crime safety rating of 4 out of 100 compared to other cities nationwide. It is worth noting that Rockford is not the site of a huge number of murders, as in one year there were only 19 reported; however, crimes like robbery and assault have been much more frequent. The neighborhoods in Rockford are pretty large, and there are several which are relatively safe, including Churchview Drive and Spring Creek Road, and New Milford. The least safe areas are clustered around the City Center. This neighborhood has a particularly low average income and correspondingly has relatively low rent prices. There are many commuter workers in the City Center, a high proportion of whom carpool.
