7) Pantry Staples
Simple pantry staples like flour, salt, and sugar are great products to buy generic. These items are almost exactly the same as their name brand counterparts. This is because the FDA requires the generic items to have the same standard of production as name brand items. Plus, because these items are so simple and contain so few ingredients, you’ll barely notice a notice a difference in their taste or texture. For example, salt is just made of the simple chemical compound sodium chloride. This means that it’s virtually impossible for name brands to create their own version of this seasoning. The same goes for bags of sugar and flour. When you’re stocking up on pantry staples for your next big baking project, do your wallet a favor and go generic.
