2) Nanotube and Small Chip Technology

With the limitations of silicon use in technology development, engineers are looking to carbon nanotubes as a solution to micro chip progression. IBM anticipates that nanotube will be ready to implement within four years, providing increased space and efficiency for the future of computers and smartphones. Nanotubes are comprised of graphene, which is essentially a single layer of condensed carbon, about atom-sized in thickness. The bond is shaped like a honeycomb, and the nanotypes are simply rolled up to maximize space for more transistors. Engineers began experimenting with carbon nanotypes in the 1990’s and are now in the position to apply them in the manufacturing of small chips by the year 2020, provided that their window of opportunity doesn’t close.
