 8) You Will Get Laid-Off from Your Job

Many would-be retirees coast along just fine. Then, suddenly, the company they work for cuts back on employees and they get laid-off. That puts retirement plans on hold, or means they have to withdraw from their IRA in order to pay monthly bills unless they find another job. Always make sure you have some savings reserved in case you lose your job. The last thing you want to do is access your retirement funds in order to pay the bills. Do whatever is necessary to hold onto your job and career, including continuing education. It is also wise to have a second source of income, such as a part-time side business, to fall back on in hard times or for when you do retire which could supplement your retirement income and keep you occupied at the same time.
