 6) You Won’t Downsize Soon Enough

You may retire, but unless you can afford the upkeep and expenses of your home it will whittle away at your fixed income. Plus it can be very hard to do chores and home maintenance when you are older and not as fit or energetic. That’s why downsizing is becoming such a popular strategy for retirees or those approaching retirement age. Reducing your overhead, especially mortgage costs and property taxes and bills in general is one of the best ways to protect your retirement. The less you need to spend every month, the more you will add to your savings. You should, however, begin downsizing, and therefore saving, earlier in life to make sure you save sufficiently to fund a healthy and happy retirement.
