5) Find Out Where to Cash Checks

Without a checking account, it’s possible that you won’t be able to deposit checks, so you’ll end up having to cash them. Finding a place that will cash checks when you don’t have an account can be tricky, so it’s helpful to make a list of various places that do so before you actually have a check in hand. In some cases, the bank that issued the check will be willing to cash it, though there may be a fee if you do not have an account at that bank. Another option is to seek out retailers that cash checks. Depending on the store, you may be able to cash the check for free, or you may end up having to pay a fee. In terms of technicalities, you will have to sign the check over to the store, and they will give you the cash in return.
