7) Ignoring Company Match

Without a doubt, some of the easiest retirement money out there is your company’s match option. There are many different employers out there that will offer to match a certain portion of the money you put away for your retirement. However, if you do not contribute money to your retirement at all or do not put in enough, you are essentially throwing away a huge amount of free money. In 2012, the average company match was about 4.5%, only a third of these company’s employees are actually contributing enough funds to their retirement funds to receive the plan match. This could potentially be the difference of whether you can truly retire when it comes time, or if you have to bring in additional income.
