Bloomington has three “it” factors making it one of the best places for entrepreneurs to take the plunge; an expanding technology division, low cost of living, and a high-ranking entrepreneurship program at one of the state’s best schools, Indiana University. The median age is twenty-four, which is 10-14 years younger than South Bend, Carmel, and Indianapolis. Many of the city’s residence describe themselves as artists, giving the city its’ hip vibe. Between 2011 and 2015 there has been extreme growth in the business sector and employment. Rent here is cheap, but home-ownership might set you back (average price is $174,000) if you earn the median salary of $30,000. One of the only drawbacks? High rate of property crime.
